Horticultural Award Program

The MASI Horticultural Award Program (HAP) was established in 1992 with the goal of encouraging members of the Society to propagate aquatic plants and to share information about aquatic plant species, their cultivation, and the propagation methods that they use. The secondary goal is to ensure that plant species and information about them, is available to the next generation.

By donating vegetative propagations, participants help to distribute species and knowledge within the club. While many non-aquatic plants are available in the hobby, only the propagation of true aquatic plants is recognized in the HAP. A true aquatic plant is defined as a plant species which, in the wild or natural state, can be found growing wholly submerged; growing emersed with its roots submerged; or floating; as a regular, normal occurrence required for its survival at some time during the course of one complete growing season.

Members earn points for their propagation successes, and can earn credit up to three times for each species; once each for vegetative reproduction, blooming either indoors or outdoors, and for producing seedlings. These points are accumulated towards awards.
